Here are our 10 Top Tips for your Time Management

Time management is something that is extremely important, without good time management you will not be able to make the most of your study skills and revision, as you won't have enough time to do it! Time management is therefore one of the key building blocks to achieving highly and one of the things we will be looking at in detail on this site.


1. Write tasks down in a planner/diary/iPod and include the date to be completed.

2. Plan enough time to complete tasks - be realistic and be flexible enough to allow for 'unexpected' events.

3. Try not to plan really long study sessions - they may be counter-productive as your attention begins to wander, especially when revising for exams.

4. Set clear aims to be completed - ask yourself what you want to complete/research/revise and stop when you've achieved your aim.

5. Plan the week ahead if possible - do this at the same time each week.

6. Prioritise what needs doing:
• What must be done, e.g. the English essay for Tuesday.
• What could be done, e.g. the analysis of the Biology data to be done by Friday.

7. Shorter, regular sessions are far more likely to be effective than one long one - remember the maxim: If you want to eat an elephant, take small bites!

8. Make use of IT if it makes your work more time-efficient: for example, word processing an essay allows you to draft and redraft swiftly besides giving your work a more professional (spell checked) look!

9. Review what you've accomplished at the end of each day - highlight anything that you were unable to finish.

10. Try using weekly timetables to assess your 'free' time that can be used for work each week.
